Star of Texas Awards recognize bravery and sacrifice of first responders and citizens

Austin, Texas – In a heartfelt announcement, Governor Greg Abbott opened the nominations for the 2025 Star of Texas Awards. This prestigious recognition is dedicated to peace officers, firefighters, emergency medical first responders, and federal law enforcement officers who have been seriously injured or lost their lives in the line of duty. The governor emphasized that the deadline for submissions is June 13, 2025, urging communities across Texas to honor their local heroes.
Governor Abbott expressed deep admiration for the sacrifices made by these individuals.
“The Star of Texas Awards recognizes the bravery and incredible sacrifices the men and women who work in the line duty make in service to our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “Peace officers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and emergency medical first responders dedicate their lives to protect their fellow Texans. They represent the very best of Texas. We are forever indebted to these selfless individuals for their heroic actions.”
The criteria for the awards are precise: to be eligible, the critical incident leading to the nomination must have occurred between September 1, 2003, and June 13, 2025. This broad timeframe allows for the recognition of numerous heroes who have served over the past decades. In addition to professional first responders, the awards also acknowledge private citizens who, despite extraordinary risk, were seriously injured or killed while aiding or attempting to aid first responders.
The Star of Texas Awards not only reflect the gratitude of the state but also serve as a solemn reminder of the dangers faced by those in public safety roles. By commemorating the courage and dedication of these individuals, the awards foster a spirit of resilience and community appreciation.
Nominations can be submitted using the official 2025 Star of Texas Awards nomination form available through the Office of the Governor’s website. As the nomination period progresses, communities across Texas are encouraged to participate actively in recognizing those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of public service and safety.
