Pflugerville joins inaugural class of Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Communities

Pflugerville, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the City of Pflugerville for achieving the Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community designation. This recognition, awarded by Travel Texas, highlights Pflugerville’s commitment to expanding tourism as a driver of local economic growth. The city earned the certification after successfully completing a detailed, multi-step application process, joining an elite group of communities recognized in the program’s inaugural year.
Governor Abbott emphasized the vital role tourism plays across Texas, noting that the industry supports one in every eleven jobs statewide. He pointed out that travel within and to Texas generates over $193 billion in economic impact each year and supports more than 1.3 million jobs.
By fostering tourism, communities like Pflugerville help strengthen not only their local economies but also contribute to the state’s overall prosperity. He encouraged other Texas towns and cities to consider pursuing the same certification.
Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell praised Pflugerville for its wide range of attractions that appeal to visitors of all ages. From the large and scenic 1849 Park to the excitement of Typhoon Texas water park, Pflugerville has built a strong reputation as a family-friendly destination in Central Texas.
Senator Sarah Eckhardt added that this certification marks Pflugerville’s rising profile and reflects the collaborative work of local leaders and residents to create an inviting and vibrant community.
State Representative Sheryl Cole reflected on Pflugerville’s transformation over the years, recalling its roots as a quiet bedroom community and celebrating its growth into a thriving city with a population exceeding 65,000. She pointed to Pflugerville’s extensive trail system and charming downtown as reasons the city stands out in Central Texas.
City officials also expressed pride in the recognition. Roger Heaney, Director of Communications and Marketing for Pflugerville, highlighted the important role tourism plays in supporting local businesses and enhancing the visitor experience.
Karla Gryzmala, the city’s Tourism Coordinator, described Pflugerville as a unique mix of outdoor adventure and vibrant culture, fitting for its nickname as the “Trail Capital of Texas.” She expressed excitement about the future of tourism in the city.
Kristen Cepak, CEO of the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce, echoed the sentiment, saying that Pflugerville’s welcoming spirit and family-friendly attractions make it a natural draw for visitors. She noted that this certification is a testament to the hard work and passion of those who promote the city.
