Community voices sought as Fort Worth unveils major recommendations for infrastructure upgrades and safety in ambitious Vision Zero transportation initiative

Fort Worth, Texas – The City of Fort Worth is inviting residents to engage with the future of transportation during the Citywide Vision Zero Open House. This event is part of an ambitious initiative to reshape transportation across the city and eliminate all traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries. Vision Zero is a key element of Fort Worth’s broader Moving a Million (M1M) Master Transportation Plan, which aims to enhance mobility for all modes of transport, including walking, biking, driving, and public transit.

As the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan nears completion, the city is eager to share its progress and gather further input from the community. During the open house, the project team will present key focus areas that have been identified with the help of data analysis and community feedback. Attendees will learn about new action strategies formulated by both community members and technical experts, aimed at making travel safer throughout Fort Worth.

The open house will also highlight recommendations for significant infrastructure improvements. These recommendations are prioritized based on need and are part of a citywide implementation plan designed to realize the goal of safe, accessible transportation for all city residents.

Fort Worth’s commitment to a transformative transportation future does not stop at local improvements. The M1M Master Transportation Plan integrates all of the city’s transportation-related initiatives into a unified vision. This comprehensive plan is expected to guide a capital program that aligns with city policies and funding capacities, addressing the needs and desires of the community.

Looking ahead to 2050, Fort Worth envisions a transportation system that is not only safe and reliable but also resilient and world-class. The envisioned system will offer greater freedom of choice in transportation modes, enhance economic dynamism, and connect residents more effectively to their community and the wider region. Moreover, it aims to improve overall quality of life, maintain equitable access to resources, and ensure sustainable funding and maintenance of infrastructure.

Residents who wish to participate in shaping this future can attend the Vision Zero Open House. There are two opportunities to engage: an in-person session on Wednesday, April 9 from 5-7 p.m. at the Hazel Harvey Peace Center located at 818 Missouri Ave., and a virtual session on Thursday, April 10, also from 5-7 p.m. Details on how to join the virtual event can be found on the city’s website.

For those unable to attend the sessions but still interested in the city’s transportation plans, information is available online. Residents can also sign up for updates on future projects, public engagement opportunities, and ways to contribute to making Fort Worth a more connected, sustainable, and equitable place to live.
