Houston-area abortion clinics operating illegally are shut down after Attorney General Ken Paxton’s legal action, with arrests made and a restraining order granted against clinic owner Maria Margarita Rojas

Houston, Texas – Attorney General Ken Paxton has successfully taken legal action to shut down a network of Houston-area abortion clinics that were operating illegally, marking a significant victory for his office in enforcing Texas’ strict abortion laws. A district court judge has granted a temporary restraining order against Maria Margarita Rojas and her clinics, putting an immediate stop to their operations.
The legal battle began after an investigation uncovered that Rojas had been providing unlawful abortions and running a network of clinics with unlicensed medical staff. Authorities found that the clinics employed individuals who falsely claimed to be healthcare professionals, creating what Attorney General Paxton described as a serious public safety concern. On March 17, law enforcement arrested Rojas along with two of her employees who were allegedly involved in the illegal operation.
Following the arrests, Paxton’s Healthcare Program Enforcement Division swiftly filed for an emergency restraining order to prevent further violations of state law. The court’s decision has now led to the closure of multiple facilities, including Clinica Waller Latinoamericana in Waller, Clinica Latinoamericana Telge in Cypress, and Latinoamericana Medical Clinic in Spring.
Paxton celebrated the court’s ruling, emphasizing its importance in upholding Texas law and protecting both unborn children and potential patients from what he called “dangerous clinics practicing medicine without a license.” He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing justice against those who violate Texas’ abortion restrictions and endanger public health.
“This is a critical win in our fight to uphold Texas law, protect the unborn, and protect all Texans from dangerous clinics practicing medicine without a license. Rojas and her network of illegal clinics operated with blatant disregard for the law, putting people’s lives at risk,” said Attorney General Paxton. “I will continue to pursue justice against those who seek to endanger Texans and violate the sanctity of life in Texas.”
Texas has some of the strictest abortion laws in the country, and this case highlights the aggressive legal approach the state is taking to enforce those regulations. With the clinics now shut down, Paxton’s office is expected to continue its investigation into Rojas and her associates to determine if additional legal action is necessary.
For now, the court’s decision ensures that none of the clinics under Rojas’s control will be able to resume operations. The case serves as a strong warning to any other entities attempting to operate outside the bounds of Texas law.
