Arlington seniors gain a new hub for fitness and social engagement as the city unveils the ACTIV Recreation Center, featuring indoor pools, pickleball courts, and walking trails

Arlington, Texas – On a bright Wednesday afternoon, Arlington will witness the grand opening of its latest community milestone, the ACTIV Recreation Center, designed specifically for adults aged 50 and older. This new facility, sprawling over 73,000 square feet, is set to open its doors on March 26, 2025, at 2061 W. Green Oaks Blvd., positioned conveniently just east of the Fire Training Center and close to Woodland Park Boulevard.

The grand opening is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and promises to be a celebration of community spirit and commitment to active aging. City leaders, including key municipal officials and project collaborators, will lead a dedication ceremony followed by the cutting of the ribbon, symbolizing the center’s official opening. Attendees will be treated to light refreshments and have the opportunity to explore the center’s extensive amenities through guided tours.

The ACTIV Center, funded by a special bond election approved by Arlington voters in May 2017, stands as Arlington’s largest recreation center yet. It offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities aimed at enriching the lifestyle of its senior residents. Indoor facilities include a full-court gymnasium, both an indoor lap pool and a hydrotherapy pool, and a fitness area complete with a walking track. The center also boasts four indoor pickleball courts, which complement the six additional courts outside.

In addition to physical fitness amenities, the center offers several social spaces designed to foster community interaction and personal growth. These include a lounge area equipped with billiards, spaces designated for special events, and rooms dedicated to arts and crafts. An outdoor patio, walking trails, and a community garden further enhance the facility’s appeal, providing serene environments where residents can relax or engage in leisure activities.

The ACTIV Center’s membership is flexible, allowing access to other City of Arlington Recreation Centers. It comes in three tiers—Blue, Green, and Gold—each offering different levels of access to the center’s amenities. Furthermore, partnerships with Silver Sneakers, Renew Active, and Silver & Fit allow for complimentary Gold-tier memberships, ensuring that more residents can enjoy the new facilities without cost being a barrier.

The event on March 26 is more than just an opening; it is a celebration of Arlington’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its senior population. It invites the community to not only observe but become an integral part of what the ACTIV Center aims to achieve in the realm of active adult living.
