Family assisting Irving police in the search for the hit-and-run driver who killed their loved one
Irving, Texas – Irving police are actively searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident that occurred last month, on June 25, and resulted in the death of a 19-year-old teenager and injuries to two others.
The investigation showed the hit-and-run driver was speeding at the time of the accident while the 19-year-old Joshua Reyes’ vehicle was traveling within the speed limit.
The crash occurred when the hit-and-run driver hit the rear right corner of Reyes’ vehicle, causing it to start spinning out of control and eventually collide with a tree located in the center median of the road.
Reyes died as a result of the accident while two of his friends were injured. Reyes was riding as a passenger in the front seat of his own vehicle.
Irving police identified the 29-year-old Grand Prairie resident, Daniel Cabrera, as the hit-and-run driver, and they say manslaughter charges will be brought against him once they are able to locate and take him into custody.
According to police, Cabrera got out of his vehicle following the accident and fled the scene on foot.
Reyes’ family is cooperating and assisting Irving police in the search for Cabrera by posting flyers at local businesses that are near the crash scene, hoping someone might have information about the suspect.
Police think Cabrera was taking part in a street takeover that was going on before the accident and was driving at an excessive rate of speed to get away from the illegal activity.
