Schools within the Jacksboro ISD that were damaged by tornados expected to reopen next week

Jacksboro, TX – As we already reported earlier this week, two Jacksboro ISD schools suffered heavy damages by tornadoes and were closed in the upcoming days. Now, the school officials say they expect the damaged schools to reopen in the upcoming period.

As per Jacksboro ISD officials, the high school that was closed due to the damages will reopen on Tuesday. Teachers and staff members will get back to work a day earlier, on Monday.

The elementary school, however, has a lot more damages and the repair will take longer than expected. The school district said they expected the elementary school to be closed at least for a week, a period in which students will be spread out in other locations for class.

Currently, a company is working in debris removal, demolition of unstable buildings and classroom repairs.

As we reported earlier this week, the roofs of both schools were heavily damaged and both schools will need temporary roof replacements. Before students and staff return in school for classes, engineers will ensure the buildings are safe to use.

The EF-3 tornado hit the elementary school the hardest, damaging the gym and the school’s cafeteria.

Next week, those students will have class at nearby churches or the middle school, which was not damaged in the storm.

The school district is expected to release the schedule for classes no later than Monday afternoon.
