A total of 133 birds believed to be used for cockfighting seized from a property in Dallas, SPCA of Texas and Dallas police worked on the case
Dallas, Texas – The SPCA of Texas confirmed they seized a total of 133 birds from a Dallas property believed to be used in cockfighting with the help of the Dallas Police Department.
According to both SPCA of Texas and the Dallas Police Department, the birds were sized Saturday afternoon. As per SPCA of Texas, 123 roosters, eight hens, and two dead roosters were among the birds seized from the local property.
Once they took the 131 live birds to the SPCA of Texas’ Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center in Dallas for evaluation, SPCA said most of the birds appeared to be “lethargic and severely injured with multiple wounds.”
The initial investigation about the case and the location of the property was started after the Dallas PD received a tip for cockfight in progress.
As of now, no charges were filed and no arrests were made in the case.
DPD’s Animal Cruelty Unit, which will oversee any criminal charges brought in this case, investigated and the SPCA of Texas assisted with getting the animals out.
