Dallas teenager shot and killed on Tuesday in a drive-by shooting, police believe she was not the target
Dallas, TX – Dallas teenager was shot and killed while she was sleeping in South Dallas on Tuesday and police believe she was not the target.
According to the incident report, the shooting took place on Reynolds Avenue in a neighborhood near Interstate 30 and Dolphin Road around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The police identified the victim as the 18-year-old Crystal Rodriguez who was sleeping in her bed at the time of the incident.
The investigation showed that the bullet went through her kitchen window and traveled to her room in the back of her family’s home.
Rodriguez was taken to hospital for treatment, but despite doctors’ efforts, she died.
Local police believe that the family and their house were not the target in the drive-by shooting.
Rodriguez’ mother is devastated and she said she doesn’t have an idea who and why would have targeted her daughter.
“She’s in the middle of the floor, and she’s bleeding. I don’t know where it’s coming from,” she said. “My daughter did not deserve this. She did not deserve to die.”
The family’s car, that was parked on the driveway, was also hit and damaged by the bullets. At this point, the police don’t have suspects in the case.
Dallas Police Department Chief Eddie Garcia said that none of the family members living in the house has criminal record or criminal history that might have led to the shooting. The victim was living in the house with her mother, her uncle and two other siblings.
