Hit-and-run in Fort Worth, teenager hit 8-year-old boy while driving his bicycle and fled the scene
Fort Worth, TX – Fort Worth teenager was arrested and charged for hitting 8-year-old boy while driving his bicycle, police say. The teenager fled the scene after the incident, but was later found and arrested.
The victim, identified as the 8-year-old Josiah “Jojo” Dunn, is still receiving treatment in the Cook Children’s Hospital from the incident that took place Saturday evening.
Ring camera video captured JoJo riding his bicycle in the street with his older brother. Twenty seconds later, you can hear the moment a pickup truck smashed into JoJo’s bike and took off.
The boy’s mother, Amiee Johnson, says she rushed outside to find the bike mangled and JoJo’s body limp.
“Blood everywhere. All over. He’s bleeding from different parts,” she recalled.
JoJo was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center with extensive injuries.
Amiee says she and her neighbors spent the weekend tracking down the truck and the driver. They even put pressure on police for an arrest, protesting Monday afternoon. By Monday evening, there was an arrest.
Police released no other details and won’t because the suspect is a juvenile.
“You ran over an 8-year-old that’s the size of a 5-year-old, and you kept going,” Amiee said. “He needs to rot in jail.”
JoJo has multiple injuries and a long recovery ahead.
“He’s going to have to learn how to walk again,” his mom said. “He’s a sweetheart, he’s a lover and he’s a fighter, too.”
