Fort Worth launches updated online system for council speaker cards on June 23

Fort Worth, Texas – A new speaker registration process for City Council meetings will begin Tuesday, June 23, changing how residents sign up to speak or submit comments on agenda items.

Under the updated process, registration will open once a meeting agenda is posted. Residents who want to address council members will need to use the City’s online meeting page, where filter options at the top of the page allow meetings to be sorted by date or type. After selecting the meeting they want to attend or comment on, residents should open the meeting agenda, expand the section connected to the item they wish to address, and complete the required form sections.

The change is meant to place speaker registration directly alongside the posted agenda, making it easier for residents to connect their comments to a specific item before the meeting begins.

Timing will be important. Once the City Council agenda is posted to the City’s website on Wednesdays, anyone wishing to speak must register no later than two hours before the start of the meeting. That deadline applies to both day and evening meetings.

Residents will still have more than one way to complete the process. They may review the online instructions for filling out a speaker card, call the City Secretary’s Office at 817-392-6150, or complete a speaker card in person at the City Secretary’s Office at City Hall, located at 100 Fort Worth Trail. In-person speaker cards must also be completed no later than two hours before the meeting starts.

A step-by-step guide is available through the document titled Registering-to-Speak-with-Doc-Assembler.pdf (PDF, 355KB), which walks residents through the online registration process.

City officials are also directing residents to additional guidance and information for those who need help navigating the updated system. The key change is simple but important: residents should check the posted agenda early, choose the item they want to speak on, and complete registration before the two-hour cutoff.

With the new process taking effect June 23, anyone planning to speak at future City Council meetings should become familiar with the updated steps before arriving at City Hall or joining the meeting process online.
