Governor Greg Abbott announces Texas sets new all time jobs record after adding more than 43,000 positions in June
Austin, Texas – Texas added tens of thousands of jobs in June, pushing the state to another employment milestone as Governor Greg Abbott celebrated continued economic growth and a labor market that is expanding faster than the national average.
According to newly released labor market figures from the Texas Workforce Commission, the state reached a new record of 14,469,600 total nonfarm jobs after employers added 43,400 jobs during June.
Governor Abbott said the latest numbers reflect Texas’ strong business climate and continued ability to attract companies, workers, and investment.
“Texas is where the American dream lives,” said Governor Abbott. “Because in Texas, freedom is a magnet for innovation and prosperity is the reward for hard work. That is why jobs grow in Texas and why Texas continues to lead for business investment and population growth. With the best business climate and strongest workforce in the nation, Texas’ robust jobs economy will fuel expanded opportunity for generations of Texans to come.”
Texas continues to outpace national job growth
State officials said Texas not only reached another employment record but also continued to grow at a faster annual pace than the country overall.
From June 2025 through June 2026, Texas added 177,900 jobs, allowing the state to outperform the national annual job growth rate.
The report also showed that the number of Texans working, including self-employed workers, climbed to 15,203,600.
Meanwhile, the state’s labor force reached 15,904,900 people, representing an increase of 29,700 workers compared with one year earlier.
The latest figures add to a series of employment records that Texas has set in recent years as population growth and business expansion continue across the state.
The jobs announcement came shortly after Governor Abbott revealed another major economic development project expected to create thousands of future jobs.
On Thursday, the governor announced that Saronic Technologies, Inc. will build Port Alpha, a next-generation shipyard at the Port of Brownsville. State officials said the facility is expected to become the largest shipyard in the United States for manufacturing medium- and large-class autonomous and autonomy-capable vessels.
The project represents a $3.248 billion capital investment and is expected to generate 10,000 new jobs, adding another major employer to Texas’ growing manufacturing sector.
State leaders say projects like Port Alpha, together with continued employment growth across multiple industries, demonstrate Texas’ ability to attract large-scale private investment while creating new opportunities for workers throughout the state.
With another monthly jobs record now in place and thousands more positions expected from upcoming developments, Texas officials say the state’s economy continues to build momentum as businesses expand and employers invest in communities across Texas.
