Fort Worth celebrates Lake Como’s 3-peat as national neighborhood champion
Fort Worth, Texas – Lake Como’s latest celebration comes with a simple message printed across T-shirts: “3-Peat.”
The Fort Worth neighborhood has once again earned national recognition, winning Neighborhood of the Year from Neighborhoods USA, also known as NUSA, for the third year in a row. The Lake Como Neighborhood Advisory Council and community partners were honored by the Fort Worth City Council on June 9, as city leaders marked another chapter in a streak built on service, memory and steady neighborhood work.
District 6 Councilmember Dr. Mia Hall welcomed Lake Como leaders during the council meeting and pointed to the neighborhood’s continued example of civic pride. “Lake Como is a model neighborhood demonstrating what can be accomplished when residents come together in the name of service and in the name of community,” Hall said.
Mayor Mattie Parker also praised the people behind the achievement. “These folks show up every single day for their neighborhoods, teaching us all what it looks like to be great neighbors,” Parker said.
This year’s national honor followed Lake Como’s win in the Social Revitalization and Neighborliness category for its College Dorm Kit Program. The effort, led by Como Lions Heart in partnership with the Lake Como Neighborhood Advisory Council, was designed to help graduating seniors step into college with more confidence and support.
In 2025, the program matched 28 graduating seniors with sponsors and connected them with college readiness resources. Volunteers helped students and families prepare for campus life, while the neighborhood rallied around them with supplies, laptops and encouragement. By the time those students left for college, they carried more than dorm room essentials. They carried proof that their community believed in them.
The project drew support from residents, businesses, churches, schools, alumni groups and other partners. Together, they contributed more than $30,000 in financial and in-kind resources. Volunteers also gave hundreds of hours to fundraising, mentoring and move-in preparation.
The College Dorm Kit Program had already received local recognition earlier this year, earning the Community Collaboration and Engagement Award at the Mayor’s Community Engagement Neighborhood Awards. At that same event, Lake Como was named Neighborhood of the Year for the third consecutive time.
The national 3-peat now places the program alongside two earlier Lake Como award-winning efforts: the Juneteenth Celebration and Walk in 2024 and the Lake Como Cemetery Revitalization work in 2025. Together, the projects show a neighborhood honoring its past, strengthening its present and investing in the next generation.
The City of Fort Worth congratulated the Lake Como Neighborhood Advisory Council, Como Lions Heart, volunteers, residents and community partners for helping make the latest national honor possible.
