Arlington reschedules free paper shredding and electronics recycling event to April 12 due to weather, giving residents extra time to prepare for safe disposal

Arlington, Texas – Residents of Arlington looking forward to decluttering their homes will have to mark a new date on their calendars. The city’s popular free paper shredding and electronics recycling event, originally scheduled for April 5, has been postponed due to forecasts of inclement weather. The new date for the event is now set for Saturday, April 12, 2025, giving residents an extra week to gather their unwanted documents and outdated electronics.
The event, which aims to help residents safely dispose of sensitive documents and recycle electronic goods, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the southeast corner of Mitchell Street and Cooper Street, utilizing the UTA parking area. Attendees must provide proof of Arlington residency to participate, ensuring the services are reserved for local citizens.
Paper shredding services will be available with a limitation of two boxes per vehicle. This service is particularly valuable for those looking to safely destroy documents containing personal information, thereby preventing identity theft. However, it’s important to note that the shredding will cease once the allocated truck reaches capacity—a detail for early birds to consider.
In addition to paper shredding, the event offers a wide range of electronics recycling options. Residents can bring items such as flat screen and CRT televisions, computers and laptops along with their components, office and stereo equipment, learning consoles, cameras, cellphones, tablets, small corded appliances, microwaves, washers, dryers, and various audio and video equipment. This service not only clears out space in homes but also aids in the proper disposal of electronics, which can be harmful to the environment if not recycled correctly.
However, there are restrictions on what can be accepted. The city will not accept refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers, air conditioners, or any other items containing Freon due to the specialized process required to safely handle these substances. Residents needing to dispose of these larger items should contact Republic Services directly at (817) 317-2000 for assistance.
This rescheduled event provides an excellent opportunity for Arlington residents to engage in community-wide spring cleaning efforts while taking care of the environment. By responsibly disposing of and recycling unwanted materials, the community can enjoy a cleaner, safer living space and contribute to the sustainability efforts of the city.
