Brownwood recognized as a top Texas destination as Travel Texas honors city’s blend of historic charm, outdoor recreation, and vibrant community spirit

Brownwood, Texas – In a notable celebration of tourism and community development, the City of Brownwood has been honored with the designation of Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. This recognition, given by Travel Texas in its inaugural year, marks a significant achievement for Brownwood, highlighting its commitment to bolstering tourism as a pivotal economic strategy.
Governor Greg Abbott extended his congratulations to Brownwood, emphasizing the essential role of tourism in the state’s economy.
“Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas,” said Governor Abbott.
“Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. Every region of this great state offers endless opportunities to experience the natural beauty, rich history, and true Texas hospitality that draws visitors to our communities. I congratulate the City of Brownwood and Visit Brownwood on earning this designation. All Texas communities are encouraged to apply to become a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community to further grow local tourism and jobs across our great state.”
Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell described Brownwood as a destination where Texas flavors, outdoor adventures, and small-town charm seamlessly converge. He highlighted some of the unique local experiences, such as dining in a restored train car, paddling along the Pecan Bayou, and enjoying performances in a historic 1920s theater. According to Fennell, this designation acknowledges Brownwood’s efforts in ensuring that visitors feel at home with each visit.
Local political figures also expressed their pride and support for Brownwood’s new status. Senator Phil King praised the city for its inviting atmosphere, rich in outdoor activities and a vibrant downtown area that beautifully blends historical and modern attractions. Similarly, Representative David Spiller highlighted the positive impact of this recognition on Brownwood’s charm and economic growth, expressing pride in representing such a dynamic community.
“Brownwood is more than just a place to visit — it’s a place that welcomes you as part of the community,” said Mayor Stephen E. Haynes. “From our rich history to our genuine hospitality, we invite travelers to discover all that makes Brownwood feel like home. Whether you’re enjoying the waters of Lake Brownwood, exploring our charming downtown, or participating in our local events, you’ll find that in Brownwood, you are never just a visitor.”
