Fort Worth Animal Care & Control rescues injured dog, performs surgery, and reunites her with homeless owner in a story of resilience and unwavering love

Fort Worth, Texas – In a touching display of compassion and teamwork, a dog named Mama found herself at the center of a heartwarming tale of rescue and reunion in Fort Worth. The story began in early March when Mama, a beloved pet to a man without a home, was tragically hit by a car. The incident left her injured and in severe pain under a food truck, where she was soon discovered by the vigilant team at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control (FWACC).
The FWACC team, recognizing the urgency of Mama’s condition, quickly administered pain relief and transported her to a city facility dedicated to animal care. The severity of her injuries required immediate attention, and she was moved to the Silcox Shelter for an emergency operation. There, the veterinary staff performed surgery to remove Mama’s damaged eye, a necessary step to alleviate her pain and prevent further complications.
As Mama was recovering from her surgery, a poignant part of her story unfolded. Her owner, who lives on the streets, learned of the tragic accident and reached out to FWACC through email. His message was a heartfelt plea to be reunited with Mama, expressing how crucial she was to his daily resilience and hope. Touched by his devotion, FWACC not only cared for Mama but also offered to spay her to aid in her long-term health and wellbeing.
The reunion between Mama and her owner was nothing short of emotional. Understanding the challenges faced by her owner, who lacked the means to transport her, FWACC took an extra step to ensure a smooth reunion. They personally delivered Mama to her owner, complete with a care package that included all essentials needed for her recovery and comfort. This package included a dog sleeping bag, a new harness, collar, leash, as well as ample food, treats, blankets, and toys.
In addition to these supplies, FWACC provided the necessary medications to support Mama’s recovery, ensuring she would have the best possible chance at a full and happy life post-surgery. The joy of their reunion was a testament to the love and bond shared between Mama and her owner, a connection that clearly defines them both.
This story not only highlights the crucial work performed by animal care professionals but also the community’s role in supporting those in need — whether on two legs or four. Thanks to the efforts and empathy of FWACC, Mama is back to being a source of joy and inspiration to her owner, proving once again the incredible impact of kindness and care in our communities.
