Oncor unveils major transmission line project connecting Arlington and Grand Prairie as part of long-term effort to expand grid capacity and ensure reliable power for growing communities

The electric utility company Oncor has unveiled plans to construct a new double-circuit 138 kilovolt (kV) transmission line spanning across Arlington and Grand Prairie. This initiative, aimed at enhancing electrical service reliability and capacity in the region, will be introduced to the community during two public meetings slated for this week.
The proposed infrastructure will commence at the planned Division Substation, which is set to be situated southwest of Division Street and Stadium Drive in Arlington. This starting point marks the beginning of a line that will stretch eastward, reaching an intermediate stop along the existing pathway between the Executive Parkway Switch and the Sherry Switch transmission line, before continuing to its potential endpoint east of State Highway 360.
This endpoint will link with the existing Liggett Switch–Cedar Hill Switch 138 kV transmission line. However, the exact locations for the intermediate and final points of the line are pending approval by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).
Designed to be constructed on robust steel monopole structures, this transmission line aims to bolster the infrastructure necessary to support the growing energy needs of these dynamic cities. The project’s importance is highlighted by the involvement of local stakeholders and regulatory bodies to ensure that it aligns with community and environmental standards.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the forthcoming public meetings to voice their opinions and learn more about the project’s scope and impact. These sessions are scheduled to occur from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on consecutive days, Monday, March 24, and Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Hilton Arlington, located at 2401 East Lamar Blvd. These meetings will provide an opportunity for public engagement and transparency, allowing community members to review materials related to the project and interact directly with Oncor representatives.
Oncor plans to file an application for this project in August 2025, with a decision from the PUCT expected by February 2026. During this period, Oncor is committed to keeping the lines of communication open, providing updates and responding to community inquiries through their dedicated phone line and project webpage.
For those interested in more detailed information or who wish to express their concerns and suggestions, Oncor has made provisions for community engagement through their designated contact number at 214-486-5216. Additionally, detailed project materials and updates are accessible on the Oncor Transmission Line Project webpage. This initiative underscores Oncor’s commitment to upgrading the region’s power infrastructure while maintaining an active dialogue with the communities it serves.
