Several people opened fire from the street targeting a house in Fort Worth early Wednesday morning, elderly woman was shot and injured
Fort Worth, Texas – Elderly Fort Worth woman was shot while sleeping when someone opened fire from the street, targeting her home. While the local authorities are investigating why someone targeted the elderly woman’s home, neighbors and the local community are concerned about the safety in the area.
The shooting took place Wednesday morning, just before 1 a.m. on Chestnut Avenue in north Fort Worth. Fort Worth police didn’t say how many people were involved in the shooting, but neighbors said that at least three people opened fire from the street, targeting the home.
At the time of the incident, the 95-year-old Elodia Rios was alone inside her home and she was sleeping. She was shot in the leg and she was transferred to a local hospital for treatment. Luckily, the injury she got wasn’t life-threatening, and she was in a stable condition.
The local community is seeking answers from the police. They want to see this case resolved as soon as possible, but the investigation is still in its early phases. As of now, not many details were provided by the Fort Worth Police Department, but they confirmed that the gang unit is now a part of the investigation. Investigators were not able to immediately confirm what the motive behind the shooting incident was.
Witnesses, however, have a reason to believe that the shooters actually wanted someone in the home where the 95-year-old was sleeping dead. This information was not confirmed or denied by the investigators, citing that the investigation is still in the early stages and, therefore, they were not able to provide more details on the case.
As a part of the investigation, investigators obtained surveillance camera footage. The camera, they say, wasn’t facing the street, but they hope the audio from the footage might help in identifying the potential suspects.
Once more details are available, we will update the case.
