One person shot to death by officers, another critically injured; early Saturday morning chase results with deadly shooting

Dallas, Texas – Officer-involved shooting in Dallas Saturday early morning ended up being fatal for one person, while another was critically injured, officers with Bedford police confirmed.

According to the incident report, Bedford police officers tried to pull over a speeding vehicle on Highway 183 as they suspected the driver was drunk at the time. Instead of stopping the vehicle, the driver reportedly opened fire and fired several shots at officers who had already started a pursuit.

During the chase, deputies with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit after they heard the shots fired. Meanwhile, officers with the Dallas Police Department also assisted.

Bedford police said the driver came to a stop in the 2200 block of N. Stemmons Freeway and began firing at officers. The passenger in the car got out and surrendered.

Several of the officers returned gunfire until a Bedford police officer shot the suspect and killed him at the scene. He was pronounced dead moments later.

Several of the vehicles, including law enforcement vehicles, were shot and damaged in the shootout. During the gunfire exchange, the suspect, whose identity was not immediately released to the public, shot and critically injured a driver in the area.

The victim was immediately transferred to Parkland Hospital for treatment. Initially, it was confirmed that the victim suffered serious injuries and was in critical condition, but no additional details have been provided since then.

Fortunately, none of the law enforcement officials who responded was injured. It is unclear if the passenger that surrendered is facing any charges.
