Four dead and at least two other injured in Sunday late night crash on I-45, report
Dallas, TX – A crash on I-45 just before midnight on Sunday was fatal for four people, while at least two other suffered injuries, local authorities confirmed.
According to the first responders, two of the four dead victims were children.
Ferris police, that were the first called prior to the crash, said they were informed about a minivan driving in the wrong directions on the I-45 Sunday late night.
The minivan was driving north on the southbound lanes on I-45 and collided with several vehicles, but continued driving in the same direction.
Moments later, the wrong-way driver slammed head-on into another vehicle near the Mars Road exit between the towns of Wilmer and Ferris.
The first responders confirmed there were a total of three people in the minivan, a female driver and two juveniles. All three of them were pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the crash.
Police said that an adult male driver and two other minors were in the second vehicle. According to the initial report, the driver was killed in the crash, while the minors suffered injuries and were transferred to hospital for treatment. It was later confirmed their injuries were not serious and their conditions were stable. They are expected to recover soon.
At this point, it remains unknown why the woman kept driving in the opposite direction even after colliding with several vehicles on her way.
Investigators confirmed the incident is under investigation and they are looking to determine if the woman was driving drunk.
This is a developing story. More details are expected during the day or early this week.
