Walmart store in Richardson closed its doors on Friday for Covid-19 cleaning, set to open again Sunday early morning

Dallas, TX – Local Walmart store closed its doors on Friday to perform a Covid-19 cleaning during the weekend, multiple reports say.

According to Walmart, the local store located on Buckingham Road in Richardson closed its doors Friday afternoon for a weekend Covid-19 cleaning and is expected to reopen for customers Sunday early morning at 6 a.m.

Officials with the company didn’t provide more details about the closure and if the cleaning is just a precaution measure or they have positive cases among their staff.

CDC recently said that disinfecting surfaces won’t make any significant difference when it comes to slowing down the spread of the virus, but Walmart is among the companies that still closes stores for Covid-19 cleaning purposes across the country in counties with high infection rates.

Scientists say updating ventilation systems would have a much bigger impact on fighting the spread.

So far, the Richardson Walmart store is only the second North Texas Walmart store to be closed for Covid-19 cleaning since the start of the pandemic.

Previously, Uptown Dallas Walmart locations closed its doors for the same reason for two days at the end of 2021.
