Fort Worth, TX – The former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean who shot to death Atatiana Jefferson in a shooting incident in 2019 will go on trial in January.

According to multiple reports, the judge in the case met with the attorneys from both sides on Tuesday to ask them if they are ready to go on trial.

He set a Dec. 6 hearing for all motions including change of venue motions. He said jury selection would begin on Jan. 4 and the trial itself would begin on Jan. 10.

The incident took place in 2019 when Aaron Dean shot to death Atatiana Jefferson.

According to the police report from the fatal day, officer Aaron Dean responded to a non-emergency 911 call in regards to a door open late night at Jefferson’s mother’s home.

From what was seen from the bodycam footage, officer Dean went to the back of the house and fired several shots through a window, hitting Jefferson as she held a gun.

The officer didn’t identify himself prior to the shooting.

According to the victim’s nephew who was in the house when the incedent took place, the victim took her handgun out of the purse when she heard steps outside the house. She got closer to the window to investigate how was walking. That’s the moment when she got shot by the officer.

An arrest affidavit said a second officer who responded with Dean could only see Jefferson’s face through the window.

The officer left the department two days after the incident. If convicted, he might spend the rest of his life in prison.
