Abbott has a solid lead over Beto O’Rourke in potential matchup, preparations for the midterms
Texas – As we are getting closer to the next year’s midterms, Republicans and Democrats are slowly preparing for the run.
A new poll on the Texas governor’s race shows incumbent Republican Greg Abbott with a strong lead over potential Democrat candidate Beto O’Rourke in a potential matchup.
According to the poll conducted by The University of Texas/ Texas Tribune, Abbott currently has a nine-point lead over the still undeclared O’Rourke. The poll surveyed 1,200 registered voters.
“For a Democrat, you can wait way too late,” said SMU Political Scientist Cal Jilson. “And the governor can be so far ahead. His fundraising can have been so strong that you’ve got little chance to get to catch up.”
In the summer, O’Rourke didn’t confirm that he is about to run for a governor and said that in the moment he is focused on voting rights and democracy.
When it comes to Republicans, Abbott by far outperforms all the other potential Republican candidates. According to Fox 4 News, Abbott has 55% support at his party.
