The Fort Worth Independent School District celebrates exceptional educators at the annual Campus Teacher of the Year event, unveiling the ten finalists for the prestigious District Teacher of the Year award

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) is once again recognizing the educators who make a lasting impact on students, schools, and the community. On March 13, teachers from across the district gathered at Pinstripes for the annual Campus Teacher of the Year celebration, an event dedicated to honoring outstanding educators from each school. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the ten finalists for the prestigious District Teacher of the Year award, an honor that will be officially presented at the second annual FWISD Awards in May.

At this highly anticipated event, Fort Worth ISD will name the District Elementary Teacher of the Year and District Secondary Teacher of the Year, along with recognizing the Assistant Principal of the Year and Principal of the Year. The competition is fierce, as each finalist has demonstrated extraordinary commitment, passion, and innovation in the classroom.

Recognizing Elementary Excellence

Among the elementary finalists, Chloe Marshall of Clifford Davis Elementary stands out for her deep dedication to professional development. Principal Ebony Key praised her ability to cultivate a rich, inclusive learning environment where every student thrives. As an educator working with English as a Second Language (ESL) students, her ability to personalize instruction has contributed to their high achievements.

For Denice Carpenter from the Leadership Academy at Mitchell Boulevard, teaching extends far beyond the classroom. Whether leading after-school programs or organizing community events, her dedication is unmatched. According to Principal Danny Fracassi, her passion and energy create a space where students feel inspired and excited to learn.

At Oakhurst Elementary, Lorena Escalante is more than a teacher—she’s a cornerstone of her classroom community. Principal Claudia Jacobo Martinez commended her ability to build strong relationships with students and parents, fostering an environment where every child feels valued and seen. Her innovative teaching methods consistently lead to measurable academic growth.

Few teachers bring learning to life quite like Mishayla Williams at D. McRae Elementary. For three years, she has remained with the same cohort of students, creating an unparalleled sense of continuity and trust. Principal Scott Runyan applauded her ability to transform her classroom into immersive learning experiences, from outer space adventures to historical reenactments.

Meanwhile, Sara Herrera of Greenbriar Elementary proved her dedication by stepping outside her comfort zone. Initially a fourth-grade teacher, she volunteered to take over a fifth-grade class when a vacancy arose. Despite the challenge, she led her students to remarkable academic growth, with 88% improving their STAAR scores. Principal Lindsay Staros Guajardo noted her ability to break down barriers and create an inclusive classroom where every student feels valued.

The secondary teacher finalists are equally impressive. Angelica Navarro of Western Hills High School has transformed Algebra from an intimidating subject into one of growth and engagement. Principal Keri Flores credited her with significantly improving student performance and fostering a love for mathematics.

At Morningside Middle School, Carol Shores is more than a science teacher—she’s a pillar of the school community. Whether leading UIL competitions, supporting athletics, or mentoring fellow educators, she embodies commitment. Principal Dr. Rhonda McGuire emphasized her tireless dedication to promoting the school’s mission.

For Emily Allen of the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, education is more than a profession—it’s a lifelong mission. As a founding staff member of the school, she now leads the English department, teaching both high school and college-level courses. Principal Rediesha Allen highlighted her ability to empower young women through mentorship, confidence-building, and rigorous academic instruction.

At Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School, KaCee Dobbins has redefined what it means to teach dance. Under her guidance, dance has evolved from an extracurricular activity into a legitimate path toward higher education. Principal Manuel De La Cruz pointed out that she has tripled enrollment in the program and played a pivotal role in securing full-ride scholarships for students pursuing dance at the collegiate level.

Rounding out the finalists, Raven Minter of Applied Learning Academy has transformed the choir room into a sanctuary of self-expression and personal growth. His students don’t just learn music—they find a safe space to build confidence and discover their potential. Principal Janis Harris described him as an irreplaceable presence on campus, someone who fosters an inclusive and supportive environment for all.
