Dallas street racing incidents nearly doubled in 2020

Fort Worth, Texas – The street racing problem in Dallas has gotten worse. Police reports have nearly doubled this year.

The Dallas Police Department’s helicopter captured video of the dangerous stunts that go along with street racing – drivers doing donuts and taking over streets. Many FOX 4 viewers have also shared videos.

DPD said it has received more than 8,400 calls about street racing so far this year.

On Wednesday, the department briefed city council members about the progress made to curb the growing problem.

An ordinance passed earlier this year allows officers to cite spectators and business owners that allow street racing on their property. They’ve handed out more than 14,000 citations this year.

Police are asking council members to consider new options such as partial street closures.
